Our goal is for every contractor to have tools that increase efficiency, quality and safety. Wherever possible we seek solutions that contribute to a better world by reducing construction waste. That’s a tall order. How do we do it?

The Key To Our Success

The spark for a better tool idea, for example the BOLT STAR reusable bolt template, came from seeing the opportunity to re-engineer a wasteful and inefficient construction process. Two electricians, tired of the time consuming task of building wood templates for light pole bases that were simply discarded after the job, one day declared to one another, “There’s got to be a better way!” They teamed up with an engineer and thus began 10-years of design collaboration, sketches and testing different prototype solutions.

In 2012 along came Ken Gregory with a background in commercial and residential construction and a sharp eye for innovative products that delivered real results. Working with the inventors of BOLT STAR, Ken built a business around this “fun and interesting tool”. Ken knew that delivering tools that consistently perform for contractors in the field takes focus and hard work. He appreciated that all BOLT STAR patented designs went through years of development and rigorous field testing before being readied for market.

Management

Ken Gregory is President and Owner of Bolt Star LLC. Ken is an experienced small businessman dating back to his roots working in his father’s country store and gas station. He opened and managed a Chevron gas station for his father at the ripe young age of 16. Bolt Star LLC is a match made in heaven for Ken, allowing him to exercise his commercial construction experience coupled with his extensive background in product development. Between 2013 and 2017, he served as President of Construction Innovations LLC and created the Tools and Materials division, of which the BOLT STAR tool became a part of. Ken developed the BOLT STAR brand and go-to-market strategy, initially building a vast distribution network in electrical, construction and concrete supply. In 2017 Ken acquired Bolt Star LLC and the BOLT STAR product line from its owners. For eight years prior to Bolt Star, Ken was involved in large scale residential and commercial land development, led construction teams on complex commercial projects for general contractor Gray Construction, and built residential spec homes. Earlier in his career, Ken served as a management consultant to Top 100 companies, including Rex Moore Electric, Airco, Porsche Cars N.A., TRW Information Services and others. Ken loves the outdoors and is an avid camper, hiker and fisherman. He has been known to occasionally pick up a golf club, completing his life long quest for a hole in one in 2019. Ken holds a B.S. degree (honors) from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and a master’s degree from Harvard University.
